Location: Mainstream Primary School, Greenford, Ealing Hours: Monday–Friday | 8:30am – 3:30pm Start Date: September 2026 (Trial days available before the end of the current academic year, with the potential to start sooner) Contract: Full-time | Long-term SEND Teaching Assistant – September Start A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Greenford is looking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support small groups of pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive school with excellent SEN facilities, where you'll work with groups of up to five pupils in a nurturing learning environment. Successful candidates will be invited to attend trial days before the end of the current academic year, with the possibility of an earlier start for the right person. The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will: Support small groups of pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Help pupils access learning while developing their communication, social, and emotional skills. Deliver engaging, pre-planned lessons and interventions to groups of up to 4–5 pupils. Use alternative communication methods to support pupils with varying communication needs. Work closely with class teachers, SEN staff, therapists, and other Teaching Assistants to ensure pupils receive high-quality support. Encourage independence while creating a calm, structured, and positive learning environment. Pupils are based within a dedicated classroom and benefit from access to specialist SEN facilities, including sensory rooms designed to meet their individual needs. Key Responsibilities Provide tailored support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Support non-verbal pupils using alternative communication methods. Use PECS, Makaton, and other communication strategies to promote learning and interaction. Deliver sensory-based and visual learning activities. Encourage engagement in classroom routines and learning activities. Support pupils during small-group interventions throughout the school day. Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities to groups of up to five pupils. Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviour. Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils to support their progress. Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN professionals, therapists, and support staff. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who: Has previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Has experience working with non-verbal pupils. Has practical knowledge of PECS and Makaton (essential). Is confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner. Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Is patient, energetic, empathetic, and passionate about supporting children with SEND. Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to apply for one.
