**Job Description**:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and supportive school based in Rochdale, Lancashire. The right candidate will be responsible for providing 1:1 support to two students, one in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in the morning and another in Year 1 during the afternoon sessions.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**For the EYFS student**:
- Provide attentive 1:1 support to a young boy with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), who is non-verbal, has global developmental delay, and exhibits complex behaviours.
- Encourage and support his educational development and assist in the delivery of individual learning plans.
- Aid in the development of communication skills using appropriate strategies and tools.
- Implement positive behaviour management techniques consistent with school policy.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and other support staff to enhance the learning environment.
- Engage the student in meaningful and stimulating activities, catering to his individual needs.
**For the Year 1 student**:
- Offer tailored 1:1 assistance to a young girl requiring personal care support, with suspected ADHD and ASC.
- Facilitate her participation in classroom activities while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
- Assist with the supervision and support during lessons, recreational activities, and transitions throughout the school.
- Contribute to observations and assessments to help inform future planning and individual target setting.
- Liaise with parents, teachers, and other professionals regarding the student’s progress and wellbeing.
**General Responsibilities**:
- Uphold the school’s commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and inclusion.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Maintain accurate records of students’ progress, development, and health needs.
- Act in a manner consistent with school policies, including those relating to safeguarding and child protection.
**Requirements**:
- Previous experience of working with children with SEND, particularly those with ASC and ADHD.
- NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or relevant experience.
- A current enhanced DBS Certificate on the update service.
- A strong understanding of child development and various educational strategies for children with special needs.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with children, staff, and parents.
