**About the Role:**
We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join our supportive team in Rochdale, Lancashire. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing specialist behaviour support to young people aged 11-16 years who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within an educational setting.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Employ a trauma-informed approach to support students with SEMH, promoting emotional well-being, and enabling them to overcome barriers to learning.
- Provide tailored one-to-one and group support for students exhibiting challenging behaviour, employing de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies.
- Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to implement individual behaviour plans to meet the needs of each student.
- Act as a positive role model, fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment.
- Monitor and report on pupils’ progress, working to raise attainment and foster academic engagement.
- Utilise a proactive and solutions-focused approach to anticipate and address potential behavioural issues.
- Help to develop students’ social skills and their ability to manage emotions effectively.
- Work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring open communication and consistency in approach.
**Candidate Requirements:**
- Experience of working with young people aged 11-16 years, particularly those with SEMH needs.
- A strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people with SEMH.
- Experience in managing challenging behaviour and employing a positive, constructive approach.
- A robust and strong personality, capable of resilience in the face of adversity.
- Ability to work proactively, independently, and as part of a cohesive team.
- Commitment to inclusive education and an empathic understanding of students’ needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- An active DBS on the update service is essential for this role.
**Desirable Qualifications:**
- Relevant teaching assistant qualifications (NVQ, CACHE, BTEC, or equivalent)
- Training in positive behaviour support, de-escalation techniques or similar strategies.
