Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Behaviour Teaching Assistant – Primary School – Harold Wood, Havering
From £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start
Axcis are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in the Harold Wood area of Havering who are seeking a confident and compassionate Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping children overcome behavioural, emotional and social barriers to learning. The school is looking for someone who can provide calm, consistent support while building positive relationships and maintaining clear expectations.
The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff to support pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, attention, behaviour or engagement. Some children may have needs associated with SEMH, ADHD, autism, anxiety or challenging behaviour and will benefit from a trusted adult who can help them feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
The school is based in Harold Wood and is accessible from Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster, Rainham, Dagenham and surrounding areas.
About the Behaviour Teaching Assistant Role
As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted 1:1, small-group and classroom support to primary-aged pupils who require additional help managing their emotions, behaviour and engagement with learning.
Your support will focus on helping pupils develop positive routines, recognise emotions, respond appropriately to challenges and build the confidence needed to participate successfully in school life.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing 1:1 and small-group behaviour support
• Supporting pupils with SEMH, ADHD, autism and emotional regulation needs
• Helping children remain focused and engaged during classroom activities
• Using positive reinforcement, clear boundaries and consistent routines
• Applying de-escalation strategies when pupils become overwhelmed
• Supporting pupils during transitions and less-structured parts of the day
• Helping children develop resilience, confidence and positive social skills
• Working with teachers and the SENCO to follow behaviour and support plans
• Recording incidents, progress and relevant observations accurately
• Building strong professional relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries
What We’re Looking For
• Previous experience as a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or pastoral support worker
• Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, SEMH, ADHD or autism
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• A calm, patient and emotionally resilient approach
• Confidence setting firm but fair boundaries
• Ability to build trust with pupils who may initially be reluctant to engage
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role from September
