Job Title: Teaching Assistant
SEND Learning Support Assistant – Primary School – Tower Hamlets From £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start Axcis are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Tower Hamlets who are seeking an experienced SEND Learning Support Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September. This is an excellent opportunity for a SEND LSA or SEN Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning. The school has a strong community ethos and places inclusion, wellbeing and high aspirations at the centre of its approach. The successful candidate will support pupils who may require additional help with communication, learning, attention, emotional regulation or social interaction. You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff to provide consistent support that helps children feel safe, included and ready to learn. The school is based in the Bow area of Tower Hamlets and is well connected by the Underground, DLR and local bus routes, making it accessible from Stratford, Mile End, Poplar, Newham and surrounding East London areas. About the SEND LSA Role As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will provide classroom, small-group and 1:1 support to pupils across the primary age range. Children may have additional needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social communication needs, SEMH or developmental delay. Support will be tailored to each pupil, with a focus on communication, engagement, confidence and independence. Your responsibilities will include: • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND • Helping children access differentiated classroom activities • Supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication needs • Using visual timetables, now-and-next boards and structured routines • Supporting attention, emotional regulation and positive behaviour • Helping pupils manage transitions and changes in routine • Delivering targeted literacy, numeracy or communication interventions • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction • Following EHCP outcomes and individual pupil support plans • Recording progress and sharing observations with teaching and SEND staff • Working closely with families and professionals where appropriate What We’re Looking For • Previous experience as a SEND Learning Support Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant or 1:1 support worker • Experience supporting primary-aged children with additional needs • Knowledge of autism, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs • A calm, patient and nurturing approach • Strong communication and relationship-building skills • Confidence supporting children with emotional regulation and behaviour • Experience using PECS, Makaton, visual supports or sensory strategies would be beneficial • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries • Reliability and full-time availability for a long-term position This is a rewarding opportunity to join a supportive Tower Hamlets primary school where inclusion is central to school life.
