Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Secondary
Axcis have a long term role starting in September working in a small classroom of only 8 pupils in Exeter. You will be a teaching assistant as well as a behaviour mentor assisting the social and emotional development of pupils with EHCP’s. Most of the pupils have Social, Emotional Mental Health needs which trigger challenging and aggressive behaviour from traumatic events in their lives. The academy is an Alternative Provision providing education for children from 11-16 years of age. All of the children that attend the provision have been either excluded from mainstream schooling or transferred by the council with the intention of transitioning back into mainstream school or leaving for further education. We are looking for a teaching assistant to work with the secondary pupils where some have involved themselves in criminal activities or drug or alcohol participation. This role is in a very fast paced classroom where you need to be focused, understanding and empathetic towards why the pupils have challenging behaviour and how to de-escalate situations.
