Hours: Monday to Friday | 9:00am – 5:00pm

Start Date: September 2025
A well-regarded mainstream college in Plumstead is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support students with additional needs who are enrolled in Construction vocational courses. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a mainstream post-16 environment, supporting inclusive education and helping young people with SEND, ASD, ADHD, and SEMH thrive in a hands-on learning context.
You will play a crucial role in supporting learners both academically and practically, helping them develop vital construction skills, confidence, and independence in a safe and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct classroom and workshop support to students on construction courses
• Assist students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to access lessons and complete practical tasks
• Support the development of employability, life skills, and social confidence
• Implement EHCP targets, support behaviour management plans, and foster emotional regulation
• Work alongside tutors, vocational instructors, and therapists to deliver tailored, inclusive support
• Contribute to safeguarding, student welfare, and health & safety in workshop settings
• Encourage positive engagement, independence, and routine in a vocational learning environment
Requirements:
• Previous experience supporting SEND learners, preferably in a college, secondary, or vocational setting
• An interest or background in construction, trades, or practical learning
• Confidence supporting students with autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, or learning difficulties
• Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
• Ability to build rapport with young people and adapt support to individual learning needs
• A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Reliability, resilience, and a proactive approach to inclusive education
