Axcis Education is recruiting for a Learning Mentor to support primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, trauma-related difficulties and associated learning needs in Plymouth. This is a highly rewarding role offering the opportunity to provide meaningful 1:1 support and help young people overcome barriers to education. About the Role As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with individual pupils who require additional support both inside and outside of the classroom. This unique role involves outreach work within the community, helping students engage in educational and therapeutic activities designed to build confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing. You will become a trusted adult for the young person, supporting them to regulate emotions, develop positive coping strategies and achieve personal goals. Key Responsibilities • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with SEMH needs and trauma-related challenges • Supporting students with additional learning needs and SEND • Building positive, trusting and consistent relationships • Delivering tailored interventions to improve engagement and wellbeing • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies • Assisting pupils to access learning and educational activities • Transporting students to community-based activities and outreach sessions • Working collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals • Acting as a positive role model and mentor Essential Requirements • Full UK Driving Licence • Access to your own vehicle • Confidence transporting students to activities and educational visits around Plymouth • Experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH needs or vulnerable adults • Alternatively, transferable skills from roles such as support work, youth work, care work, coaching, residential care, mental health support or community work The Ideal Candidate • Confident and able to build strong professional relationships • Calm and resilient when faced with challenging situations • Adaptable and proactive in their approach • Empathetic and understanding of the impact of trauma • Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people • Committed to helping pupils achieve positive outcomes Why Apply Through Axcis Education? • Competitive daily rate of £92-£100 per day • Immediate starts available • Full-time, long-term opportunity • Weekly pay • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement • Access to SEND and SEMH training opportunities • Opportunity to gain valuable experience in specialist education • Rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference every day Apply today through Axcis Education to begin a fulfilling career supporting primary-aged pupils with SEMH, trauma and additional learning needs.
