About the Role
Axcis Education is working with a specialist primary SEND provision in Andover that is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.
The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, autism, communication difficulties and emotional regulation needs. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping children feel safe, supported and ready to learn within a structured and nurturing environment.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children who may have experienced challenges within education and wants to help them develop the confidence, skills and independence they need to progress.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support throughout the school day
• Helping pupils manage their emotions and develop positive coping strategies
• Supporting children to engage with learning and participate in classroom activities
• Encouraging communication, confidence and positive social interaction
• Helping pupils navigate transitions and changes to their daily routines
• Providing consistent support and clear boundaries to promote positive behaviour
• Working alongside class teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals to meet individual needs
• Supporting pupils with their academic, social and emotional development
• Monitoring and sharing observations on pupil progress
• Helping create a calm, structured and welcoming classroom environment
About You
We are looking for someone who is patient, reliable and emotionally resilient, with a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.
Previous experience working within a school or SEND setting would be beneficial, particularly experience supporting pupils with SEMH. However, we are also keen to hear from candidates with relevant experience in roles such as support work, youth work, care or mentoring.
The ideal candidate will:
• Have experience working with children or young people with additional needs
• Ideally have previous experience within a primary or SEND setting
• Understand the importance of consistency, routine and positive relationships
• Be confident supporting children who may display challenging behaviour or struggle with emotional regulation
• Have strong communication and teamwork skills
• Be patient, approachable and understanding
• Be able to remain calm and positive in challenging situations
• Be committed to helping every child make progress, both academically and personally
