SEND Teaching Assistant – Special School – Autism & Complex Needs – Havering £105–£120 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Start After October Half Term Axcis Education is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist school in Havering, supporting children and young people with Autism, complex needs and significant communication difficulties. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys working within a specialist SEND environment. Pupils may be non-verbal or minimally verbal, require additional sensory support and benefit from highly structured, individualised approaches to learning. We are particularly interested in candidates who already have experience within a special school, ARP, SEN provision or high-needs SEND setting and understand that progress can look very different for every pupil. About the Role Supporting pupils with Autism, complex needs and communication difficulties Providing 1:1 and small-group support Working with pupils who may be non-verbal or minimally verbal Supporting highly differentiated and sensory-based learning Using strategies such as PECS, Makaton, visual timetables and Now & Next boards where appropriate Helping pupils with transitions, communication and emotional regulation Supporting individual EHCP and developmental targets Working closely with teachers, therapists and other SEND professionals Encouraging pupils to develop communication, confidence and independence Supporting personal care where required by the individual setting or pupil About You We would particularly like to hear from candidates who: Have previous experience as a SEND TA, LSA or specialist support worker Have worked with pupils with Autism or complex needs Have previous special-school or high-needs SEND experience – strongly preferred Are comfortable supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils Understand the importance of sensory regulation and structured routines Have experience with PECS, Makaton or visual communication – desirable Are patient, observant and able to adapt around individual pupils Are comfortable supporting personal care where required Can commit to a full-time, long-term position A CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification would be an advantage, although strong practical specialist SEND experience is equally valuable. The School & Location The role is based within a specialist SEND setting in Havering, with opportunities accessible from Romford, Hornchurch, Rainham, Harold Hill and surrounding East London and Essex areas. This would particularly suit someone who enjoys seeing progress through the smaller but hugely important milestones — whether that is a pupil communicating a need, managing a transition more independently or engaging successfully with an activity for longer.
