Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant Location: Frome School: Specialist School Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm Pay: £14.25 – £15.50 per hour PAYE Axcis Education is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEND school in Frome. This role would suit someone who enjoys working closely with young people and wants to be part of a school where education is tailored around the individual. The pupils have a range of additional needs, and the school takes a broad approach to learning — helping pupils develop academically while also building practical skills that can support them in everyday life. You will be part of the team helping pupils get the most from their school day. This could involve supporting classroom learning, helping with practical activities, encouraging communication and social development, or simply providing the reassurance and consistency a pupil needs to engage. What You'll Be Doing • Assist pupils with their day-to-day learning and classroom activities. • Provide targeted support on an individual or small-group basis. • Help pupils follow their personalised learning programmes. • Encourage the development of communication and social skills. • Support pupils as they work towards greater independence. • Take part in practical activities and educational trips or activities outside the classroom. • Encourage engagement and help pupils recognise and celebrate their progress. • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals involved in pupil support. • Help create a positive, welcoming and well-organised classroom environment. • Build professional and supportive relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate boundaries. What We're Looking For You don't necessarily need to have worked in a specialist school before. We are interested in people who can demonstrate a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people. You may have experience in a school, college, care environment, youth setting or another role involving additional needs. We're looking for someone who is: • Patient and understanding, particularly when pupils need extra time or reassurance. • Flexible, with the ability to adjust their approach according to the individual. • Positive and encouraging, with a focus on recognising progress. • Comfortable supporting pupils with a range of learning and additional needs. • A good communicator who can work effectively with teachers and support staff. • Reliable, consistent and able to contribute positively to the school community. What You Can Expect This is a great opportunity to build practical experience within specialist SEND education while working alongside experienced staff. The role offers: • A full-time, long-term position in Frome. • £14.25–£15.50 per hour PAYE. • Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional and complex needs. • The opportunity to develop your understanding of personalised education. • Experience across classroom, practical and independence-based learning. • The chance to develop skills that can support a future career in education, SEND or care. • A rewarding role where your day-to-day support can have a real impact on pupils' progress and independence. Interested?
