The Role As an SEMH & Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional emotional, social and behavioural support. You will help students overcome barriers to learning, manage their emotions and engage positively with lessons and wider school life. Your key responsibilities will include: Providing 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs • Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing • Supporting students with emotional regulation through positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques • Encouraging engagement, independence and participation within lessons and across the school • Supporting the implementation of individual education plans, behaviour support plans and personalised interventions • Working closely with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams to support students' progress • Helping to maintain a safe, structured and inclusive environment Every day will provide an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping young people overcome challenges, develop positive behaviours and build the skills they need for their future. What We're Looking For We're keen to hear from candidates who have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or additional needs. This could be within a school, education, care, youth work or another relevant setting. You will need to be calm, patient and emotionally resilient, with the ability to remain professional and composed when dealing with challenging situations. You'll also need to be confident building positive relationships with young people and acting as a consistent and positive role model. Knowledge of behaviour management strategies, trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches would be desirable, but is not essential.
