Axcis Education is recruiting on behalf of a friendly mainstream primary school in Christchurch that is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This full-time position will involve providing 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), while also supporting the wider class throughout the school day.
The school has a strong reputation for inclusive practice and is led by an experienced and approachable Senior Leadership Team that is committed to supporting both pupils and staff. The Role
Working closely with the Year 3 class teacher and SENDCo, you will play an important role in helping a pupil with additional needs access learning, build confidence and develop independence while also providing wider classroom support when required.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with ASC.
Supporting the pupil to access the curriculum and achieve their individual EHCP outcomes.
Assisting the class teacher with whole-class learning and small group activities.
Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social interaction.
Adapting learning resources and activities to meet individual needs.
Monitoring progress and providing feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo.
Supporting pupils during playtimes, educational visits and other school activities.
Contributing to a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Has previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ASC, within a primary school.
Can build positive relationships through patience, empathy and consistency.
Has a good understanding of inclusive classroom practice and behaviour support.
Works well as part of a collaborative team.
Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or has equivalent school-based experience.
Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
