Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Axcis Education is delighted to be working with a welcoming and well-established mainstream secondary school in Burnley to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a rewarding 1:1 role.
This is a part-time position, starting at 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with the potential for additional hours as the role develops.
The Role
You will be supporting a Year 7 female student on a one-to-one basis. The student has SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and displays some pathological demand avoidance (PDA) traits. She has recently become a looked-after child and has experienced significant disruption in her home life.
Currently on a phased return to school, she requires consistent, compassionate support to:
• Stay engaged and on task during lessons
• Rebuild confidence in the school environment
• Catch up academically and socially
While there can be challenging behaviour, this is verbal rather than physical, and the focus is on proactive, relationship-led support.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
• Has previous experience working with SEMH needs (essential)
• Is skilled at building positive, trusting relationships
• Can provide a calm, nurturing, and consistent presence
• Is patient, resilient, and empathetic
Training or experience in de-escalation or behaviour management strategies is highly desirable, though not essential.
The School
• Large, supportive mainstream secondary school
• Located on the outskirts of Burnley
• Excellent public transport links nearby
• On-site parking available for drivers
