Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Autism Support
Location: Southall, West London (excellent rail links)
Start Date: ASAP – October 2025
Contract: Full-time | Long-term
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
Daily Rate: Competitive (dependent on experience)
About the Role
Axcis Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Southall to recruit a dedicated and nurturing Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term role.
You will provide 1:1 support to a Key Stage 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The pupil is bright and inquisitive, thrives on routine and consistency, and requires additional support with emotional regulation, transitions, personal care, and managing challenging behaviour.
This is a rewarding opportunity to build a strong, supportive relationship and make a meaningful impact by promoting independence, self-regulation, and engagement in learning.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD, focusing on engagement and emotional regulation
-Support personal care needs with sensitivity and professionalism
-Confidently manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using proactive strategies
-Implement and adapt individualised learning plans in collaboration with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
-Use structured routines, visual aids, and communication tools (e.g. now/next boards, PECS)
-Promote emotional literacy, resilience, and positive peer interactions during lessons and unstructured times
-Track and record progress, contributing to review meetings and parent updates
-Create a calm, safe, and predictable learning environment
-Encourage independence, wellbeing, and participation in daily routines
What We’re Looking For
-Experience supporting children with ASD and/or additional needs in a school or similar setting
-Ability to confidently manage challenging behaviour and support self-regulation
-Calm, patient, and consistent approach
-Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
-Familiarity with tools such as PECS, visual timetables, and sensory strategies (desirable)
-Proactive, reflective, and passionate about inclusive education
-Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
-Relevant SEN qualifications or training (desirable, not essential)
