Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team in Salisbury, Wiltshire. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and social development of children within a classroom setting, particularly focusing on the needs of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Condition and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the delivery of tailored educational activities, under the direction of the class teacher, to support the learning and engagement of students with SEND.
- Provide one-to-one support to pupils with ASC, SEMH, or other learning difficulties, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and succeed in their educational objectives.
- Prepare classroom resources and create a welcoming and safe learning environment that caters to the needs of all learners.
- Implement strategies for promoting positive behavior and handle any challenging behavior in a calm and effective manner.
- Collaborate with other staff, including SEND coordinators and educational psychologists, to contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as necessary.
- Support the physical, social, and emotional welfare of all pupils, fostering an inclusive atmosphere.
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance knowledge and skills related to SEND provision.
- Display flexibility in working hours to accommodate the varied needs of the school and its pupils.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, particularly within SEND settings, is highly desirable.
- A patient, empathetic approach to working with children and the ability to build rapport with pupils facing a range of challenges.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to inclusive education and the safeguarding and well-being of children.
- Relevant qualifications or willingness to pursue professional development in the area of SEND teaching support.
- A DBS check is required for this role.
