Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEND)
Full-time | Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm | £92.63 per day
Working in a specialist school is never “one size fits all”—and this role reflects that. Based in Woodley, this opportunity is for someone who can adapt quickly, think on their feet and bring consistency and care to a wide range of pupils aged 4 to 18.
You won’t be tied to one classroom. Instead, you’ll move across the school as needed, supporting different classes at short notice. One day you may be working with younger children developing early communication skills; the next, supporting older students with more complex or physical needs. The school caters for a broad spectrum, including pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) through to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), so flexibility is essential.
The environment can be lively and, at times, challenging. Some pupils may display behaviours linked to their needs, including occasional aggression, so being calm under pressure and confident with de-escalation is important. At the same time, many students benefit from sensory, physical and hands-on learning approaches, meaning you’ll spend much of your day active and engaged rather than seated.
You’ll also play a key role in supporting personal care, including toileting, ensuring dignity and respect are maintained at all times.
This position would suit someone who:
Is naturally adaptable and comfortable with change throughout the day
Builds rapport easily with children and young people of all ages and abilities
Brings a patient, nurturing and down-to-earth approach
Is physically able to stay on their feet and actively involved for most of the day
Can remain composed and positive in high-energy or challenging situations
Understands (or is willing to learn) how to support a wide range of additional needs
In return, you’ll gain valuable experience across a diverse SEND setting and be part of a team that genuinely values supportive relationships and inclusive practice.
