Job Title: Teaching Assistant Secondary
Are you looking for a meaningful job where you can make a real difference to young people’s lives? We are seeking a warm, patient and caring full-time Teaching Assistant to work with secondary-aged pupils with SEMH, autism and learning disabilities at a thriving secondary school in Taunton.
Why join this school?
• The school is rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection, praised for “warm relationships between pupils and staff”, and a “calm and focused atmosphere”.
• Staff and students describe the environment as caring, inclusive and ambitious — a place where every child’s strengths are nurtured.
• You will be working in a community that values respect, tolerance and growth: both academically and personally.
The role:
• Full time: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
• Hourly rate: £13.70 per hour
• Permanent, following a 16-week settling-in period beginning January
• You’ll support pupils with SEMH, autism and learning disabilities, helping them engage in mainstream lessons and access the curriculum with confidence
About you:
We’re looking for someone who:
• Is kind, patient and calm under pressure
• Has a genuine desire to make a positive difference for vulnerable young people
• Can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff alike
• Is flexible, reliable and values teamwork
• Has experience working with young people (graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, support workers or previous teaching assistants welcome) — though your attitude and commitment matter more than formal teaching experience.
What you’ll get:
• A supportive, inclusive school community where every student is known and valued
• The chance to help young people with additional needs thrive in mainstream lessons
• A stable, full-time, permanent role with meaningful purpose
If you want to contribute to a welcoming, caring school environment and believe in helping young people reach their potential — we’d love to hear from you.
