Are you passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs? Axcis Education are looking for a dedicated and patient SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our Tameside’s specialist schools. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide classroom-based support to children and young people with a variety of learning difficulties, including autism, communication challenges and developmental delays.
You will be working in a well-resourced, nurturing environment where teamwork and pupil wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. Your role will involve supporting students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to help them engage with learning and develop important life skills.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist the class teacher in delivering planned lessons and activities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language needs and sensory processing difficulties
- Help maintain a structured, inclusive and calm learning environment
- Support students with daily routines, transitions and behaviour management
- Contribute to setting up learning materials and adapting resources to suit individual needs
- Support with personal care tasks where required and follow individual care plans
- Monitor pupil progress and report observations to teaching staff and SEN professionals
- Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies and promote a safe learning space for all students
You’ll be a key part of a multi-professional team working collaboratively to ensure each pupil reaches their full potential. Flexibility, resilience, and a caring nature are essential.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking someone who is committed to making a difference in the lives of young people with SEN. Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in an SEN, care, or school support role
- A good understanding of the needs of pupils with autism and complex learning difficulties
- A calm, consistent, and empathetic approach to supporting behaviour and learning
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to follow instructions and also use initiative when needed
- A willingness to undertake relevant training, including safeguarding and SEN-specific development
- A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g. Level 2 or 3) or experience in a specialist setting is desirable, though not essential for the right candidate.
