The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of additional needs, including: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Complex learning difficulties Communication needs Sensory processing differences This is a rewarding and varied role where you will play a key part in helping pupils access learning, develop essential life skills, and achieve their individual education targets. Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff, you will help create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with Autism and complex SEND needs. Support pupils in small classes of up to 10 children. Create a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment. Support pupils to access the curriculum and achieve their individual learning targets. Use communication strategies, including PECS and Makaton, to promote engagement and communication. Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Provide personal care where required. Promote pupils' communication, social, emotional, and independence skills. Implement positive behaviour management strategies consistently. Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and senior leaders. Monitor and record pupil progress, engagement, and achievements. Contribute to the school's inclusive, supportive, and child-centred ethos. Candidate Requirements The successful candidate will have: Previous experience supporting children with Autism and a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). A strong understanding of complex learning needs and positive behaviour support strategies. Experience using PECS and knowledge of Makaton. Confidence supporting pupils with personal care where required. A proactive, adaptable, and hands-on approach to supporting learning. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. A genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential. A willingness to learn, develop professionally, and respond positively to training and feedback. An Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the DBS Update Service (or willingness to obtain one). Full-time availability from September 2026. Availability to attend trial days as soon as possible.
