Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Axcis Education is recruiting for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Rugby. This rewarding opportunity is ideal for a compassionate and dedicated individual looking to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and behavioural challenges. The school has a specialist SEND unit that supports pupils with a range of additional needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Staff are committed to providing a nurturing environment where every child can achieve their full potential, develop confidence, and succeed both academically and socially. This is a full-time Teaching Assistant role, starting in September, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm. You will primarily support pupils aged 7-11 years, helping them access learning, develop independence, and engage positively in school life. The Role • Support pupils with SEND within the school's specialist provision and mainstream environment • Work closely with children who have Autism (ASC), SEMH needs, and behavioural difficulties • Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support • Familiarise yourself with and support the delivery of individual EHCP targets • Adapt learning activities to meet pupils' individual needs • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff • Promote emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour • Assist with communication, social development, and learning activities • Support with personal care when required • Create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment Requirements • Previous experience supporting children with Autism, SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs • Experience working in a school, childcare, youth work, care, or support setting is desirable • Strong behaviour management and communication skills • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach • Understanding of EHCPs and personalised support strategies is beneficial • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one • Availability to work full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 4:00pm) What We Offer • Competitive pay rate of £92.63 per day • Free online training, including Level 2 Safeguarding • Dedicated support from an experienced local Axcis consultant • Opportunities to develop specialist SEND experience • Long-term and potential permanent opportunities • Flexible and rewarding work with the UK's leading SEND recruitment agency About Axcis Education Axcis Education is the UK's leading specialist recruitment agency for the SEND sector, matching talented education professionals with roles in schools, specialist provisions, and alternative education settings nationwide.
