Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
We are currently looking for a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and supportive special needs school in Tilehurst. This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm, with a daily rate of £92.63. The role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs while becoming part of a committed and nurturing educational team.
In this role, you will support pupils aged 4 to 17 with a range of moderate to severe learning disabilities, helping them to access learning, develop confidence and build essential life skills. Working closely with teachers and other support staff, you will provide tailored support that enables each pupil to engage positively in school life and achieve their individual goals within a safe, structured and encouraging environment.
The successful candidate will be confident supporting children and young people with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities, both within the classroom and on a one-to-one basis. You will assist with learning activities, encourage participation and independence, and support behaviour management strategies that help pupils remain engaged and successful throughout the school day. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils will be a key part of the role, as will providing a consistent and positive presence that helps them feel secure and supported.
We welcome applications from individuals with experience in SEND settings, care and support work, social work or other roles involving vulnerable children, young people or adults. Transferable skills from these sectors are highly valued, particularly where relationship building, behaviour support and promoting independence have been central responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will be patient, resilient and proactive, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt their approach to meet a wide range of needs. You should be comfortable working across different age groups and levels of ability, and willing to support with personal care where required. A genuine passion for helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning and development is essential.
