SEND Teaching Assistant, PMLD
Axcis Education is currently looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
This highly rewarding role involves working closely with pupils who have complex learning needs, physical disabilities, medical needs, and communication difficulties. As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to help pupils access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals in a safe and nurturing environment.
This role would suit candidates with experience in SEND education, care work, support work, healthcare, residential care, or nursing support.
Key Responsibilities
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with PMLD and complex needs.
• Support pupils with classroom activities, sensory learning, and communication-based tasks.
• Assist with the delivery of personalised learning programmes and EHCP targets.
• Use a range of communication methods, including visual aids, sensory approaches, and assistive technology.
• Support pupils with mobility needs, including the use of specialist equipment where required.
• Provide personal care, including toileting, feeding, and changing, whilst maintaining pupils' dignity and wellbeing.
• Support pupils during therapy sessions and sensory activities.
• Monitor pupil engagement, progress, and wellbeing throughout the school day.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who:
• Has experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, complex needs, physical disabilities, SLD, ASD, or medical needs.
• Is comfortable providing personal care and supporting pupils with daily living skills.
• Has a caring, patient, and nurturing approach.
• Can build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Holds relevant qualifications in Education, Health & Social Care, Care, or SEND support (desirable but not essential).
