Job Title: SEND Supply Teaching Assistant
We are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support a well-established specialist school in Woodley on a flexible supply basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs while enjoying the flexibility that supply work can offer. The role is based in Woodley, working Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm, with a daily rate of £92.63.
As a Supply SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils aged 4 to 17 who have a range of moderate to severe learning disabilities. Your role will involve supporting students both academically and personally, helping them access learning opportunities, build confidence and develop important life skills within a structured, nurturing environment. Due to the nature of supply work, you will need to be adaptable and comfortable working across different classes, age groups and areas of need, depending on the school's requirements each day.
Working closely with teachers and other support staff, you will provide tailored support that enables pupils to engage positively in their learning and make meaningful progress. You will assist with classroom activities, behaviour management and emotional regulation, while encouraging independence, participation and self-confidence. Building positive and consistent relationships with pupils will be central to your success in the role, helping to create an environment where students feel supported, understood and motivated to achieve their potential.
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in SEND or specialist school settings, as well as those with transferable skills gained through care work, residential support, social work, youth work or other roles supporting vulnerable children, young people or adults. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside the ability to quickly build rapport with both pupils and staff. The role may also involve providing personal care, so applicants must be willing and comfortable to support with this where required.
The ideal candidate will be patient, resilient and proactive, with a calm and consistent approach to supporting behaviour and managing challenging situations. You should be confident adapting to new environments, able to establish clear expectations and committed to acting as a positive role model for the pupils you support.
This is a rewarding opportunity to gain valuable experience within a specialist educational setting while maintaining flexibility in your working schedule. If you are looking for a varied role where every day brings new experiences and the chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people, we would love to hear from you.
