Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Beaminster, Dorset
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Pay: £89–£95 per day
About the Position
We are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a warm and welcoming primary school . This full-time role providing 1:1 support to pupils with special educational needs, particularly those with SEMH and ASC needs
The successful applicant will play an important role in helping pupils feel secure, encouraged, and ready to learn—making a genuine impact on both their wellbeing and educational development each day.
Main Duties
• Offer tailored 1:1 and small-group support to children with a variety of special educational needs
• Assist with the delivery of personalised learning programmes alongside the class teacher
• Encourage engagement, confidence, and participation during lessons
• Foster positive interactions and supportive peer relationships
• Track pupil progress and share relevant information with the wider team and parents where necessary
• Use calm, positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation
• Adapt and prepare resources to meet pupils’ specific learning needs
• Take part in ongoing training to strengthen SEND and SEMH expertise
We’re looking for someone who:
• Has previous experience working in a school or classroom environment (essential)
• Is confident supporting pupils with additional and/or complex needs
• Has an understanding of trauma-informed practice, attachment needs, and the impact of emotional regulation on learning
• Communicates clearly and works effectively with staff, pupils, and families
• Is patient, compassionate, and resilient, with a strong desire to support pupil progress
• Can work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
• Holds, or is willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS
• Has reliable transport or a driving licence, which is beneficial due to the school’s location
