About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join our specialist team in Surbiton. Working closely with the class teacher and senior staff, you will support pupils who experience social, emotional, or mental health challenges, helping them achieve their academic potential in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Implement individualised behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
• Assist in delivering differentiated lessons and adapting resources.
• Monitor progress, record observations, and contribute to pupil’s SEN/EHCP plans.
• Foster positive relationships with pupils, families, and external agencies.
• Maintain a calm, structured classroom atmosphere and uphold safeguarding policies.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (minimum grade 4/C).
• Recognised teaching assistant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3) or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience working with children who have SEMH difficulties.
• Strong communication, empathy, and resilience.
• DBS clearance (or ability to obtain).
Desirable
• Training in trauma-informed practice, mental health first aid, or CBT techniques.
