Job Title: Safeguarding Lead
Job Title: Operational Safeguarding Lead Location: Newhaven, East Sussex (Alternative Provision) Contract: Fixed term, Monday to Friday, 8:30–15:30 About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated Operational Safeguarding Lead to join an Alternative Provision in Newhaven. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and welfare of all pupils, supporting staff, and maintaining high safeguarding standards. You will work closely with the Safeguarding Manager and senior leadership team to implement day-to-day safeguarding practices, manage referrals, and promote a culture of vigilance and care across the school. Key Responsibilities: Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding and child protection concerns. Manage referrals to external agencies, including Children’s Social Care, Police, and Early Help. Maintain accurate safeguarding records (CPOMS) and monitor attendance for vulnerable pupils. Provide guidance and support to staff on safeguarding policies and practice. Attend multi-agency meetings, case conferences, and reviews. Conduct internal audits and contribute to compliance reporting. Deliver safeguarding training and promote a culture of accountability. Oversee support plans for pupils with welfare, safeguarding, or attendance concerns. Person Specification – Essential: Level 3 Safeguarding/Child Protection qualification (or willing to undertake immediately). Experience as a DSL or DDSL in education, social care, or youth provision. Strong knowledge of KCSIE, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local safeguarding procedures. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and record-keeping skills. Ability to manage sensitive information and work under pressure. Desirable: Experience in Alternative Provision or PRU settings. Background in teaching, social work, pastoral care, or inclusion support. Experience leading safeguarding casework and multi-agency working.
