Job Title: Positive Behaviour Mentor
Positive Behaviour Mentor – Full Time (Start Date: 2nd June)
Location: North Bristol
Salary: Competitive, from £450/week
Contract: Term-time only, full-time
Are you a recent graduate looking to make a difference in young people's lives?
Axcis Education is working in partnership with a well-regarded special school in North Bristol to recruit a Positive Behaviour Mentor to join their team from 2nd June. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for inclusion, mental health, and behaviour support – particularly suitable for psychology, education or social science graduates who are looking to gain hands-on experience in a school setting.
About the Role
This is a varied and rewarding position, where no two days are the same. You will work with a small group of pupils – many of whom have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. These students may struggle with anxiety, emotional regulation, or challenging behaviour and require consistent, calm, and compassionate support.
You will:
Develop positive, therapeutic relationships with students, often working on a 1:1 basis or with small groups.
Support students both in and out of the classroom, helping them to access learning and manage their behaviour.
Use reflective and restorative approaches to help pupils understand and manage their emotions.
Assist in the design and delivery of Individual Behaviour Plans and Risk Assessments.
Promote inclusion by encouraging students to build their independence, confidence and ability to form positive peer relationships.
Carry out home visits with experienced staff, helping to build supportive relationships with families.
Liaise with teachers, support staff and external agencies to implement consistent, student-centred strategies.
Help new pupils settle into school life, offering calm and structured support during transition periods.
What Will You Learn?
This role is a fantastic stepping stone into a career in education, psychology or social care. You will gain:
First-hand experience of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision in a school rated highly for its inclusive ethos.
Practical skills in de-escalation, restorative practice, and behaviour management.
Insight into collaborative, multi-agency working with families, therapists and education professionals.
Experience working with therapeutic approaches, tailored communication strategies, and trauma-informed care.
An understanding of how to support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
Many of our graduates go on to teacher training, educational psychology postgraduate courses, or long-term roles in pastoral care or behaviour mentoring.
Why Join Axcis Education?
At Axcis, we specialise in SEND recruitment and are passionate about supporting professionals in this field.
Free CPD and training via the Axcis Education Academy – including autism awareness, Team Teach (positive behaviour strategies), safeguarding, and mental health in schools.
A dedicated consultant who understands SEND and offers personalised support throughout your placement.
Opportunities for long-term work, with potential for permanent contracts and career progression in the SEND sector.
Access to a wide network of schools and opportunities across the South West.
