Job Title: PMLD Teaching assistant
Position: PMLD Teaching Assistant Location: Walton, Surrey Type: Full-time (8:00?am – 3:30?pm, Monday-Friday) Salary: Paid to scale About the Role We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and proactive PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) Teaching Assistant to join our specialist team in Walton. Working closely with the classroom teacher, you will support a small group of pupils with complex needs, helping them achieve personal, educational, and social milestones in a safe, nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities. • Implement individualized learning plans, adapting activities to each child’s abilities and goals. • Assist with daily routines, including personal care, feeding, medication administration, and mobility. • Monitor and record pupils’ progress, reporting observations to the lead teacher and senior staff. • Promote inclusive participation in classroom, therapeutic, and recreational activities. • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free learning environment. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (speech therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists) to deliver holistic support. Essential Qualifications & Skills • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (or relevant qualifications). • Experience working with children with profound and multiple learning disabilities, preferably in a school setting. • Level 2/3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Special Educational Needs, or equivalent. • Strong communication, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff. • Basic first-aid knowledge; current safeguarding training.
