Job Title: Complex Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Near Solihull Pay Rate: £92.63 per day Hours: Every Monday, 8:30am – 4:00pm Start Date: September 2026 Join a Warm and Supportive Specialist SEND School Axcis Education is seeking a caring and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to provide weekly cover within a specialist SEND school near Solihull. This role involves supporting a lovely KS3 class of pupils with complex needs. The class consists of pre-verbal learners who use a range of communication aids and alternative communication methods to access learning and express their needs. Several pupils have Down Syndrome, and the class also includes pupils who are currently settling into the provision. This is an excellent opportunity for a patient, nurturing and enthusiastic SEND professional who enjoys building positive relationships and supporting pupils with significant communication and learning needs. Key Responsibilities • Support KS3 pupils with complex learning and communication needs. • Assist pupils in accessing learning through communication aids, visual supports and personalised strategies. • Build trusting and positive relationships with pupils who are developing confidence within the setting. • Support pupils' social, emotional and communication development. • Work alongside teachers and support staff to deliver engaging and meaningful learning experiences. • Encourage independence, participation and pupil wellbeing. • Support transitions and routines throughout the school day. • Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment. The Ideal Candidate Will Have • Experience working with children or young people with SEND. • Experience supporting pupils with complex needs, communication difficulties, learning disabilities, Down Syndrome and/or non-verbal learners. • A calm, patient and caring approach. • Strong communication and relationship-building skills. • An understanding of alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, visual supports or communication devices (desirable). • A genuine passion for helping pupils achieve their full potential. • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
