Job Title: Complex Needs Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant – Complex Needs (PMLD)
Adult Education Centre & Specialist College | Haringey (N22 & N8) | September 2026 Start | Full Time | Term Time Only
Some learners need support to communicate. Others need support to move, learn and access every part of their day. They all deserve adults who see their abilities before their disabilities.
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to work across two specialist education sites in N22 and N8, supporting young people and adult learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and a range of complex medical, physical and communication needs.
This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and understands the importance of providing dignified, person-centred support. No two days are the same, and every achievement—however small—is celebrated.
The successful candidate will be confident supporting learners with complex needs, working closely with teachers, therapists and healthcare professionals to ensure each individual can access learning, develop independence and achieve their personal goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality 1:1 and small group support to learners with PMLD and complex additional needs.
Deliver personal care with dignity, sensitivity and respect, including toileting, changing and supporting with feeding where required.
Assist with moving and handling in line with training and organisational policies.
Support learners with communication, sensory activities and therapeutic programmes.
Encourage participation in educational, vocational and life skills activities.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, nurses and families to provide consistent, holistic support.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to learner progress reviews.
We're looking for someone who:
Has previous experience providing personal care within an educational, healthcare or care setting (essential).
Has experience supporting learners with PMLD, severe learning difficulties or complex additional needs.
Is confident working with learners who use alternative communication methods, including visual supports or communication aids.
Is patient, compassionate and committed to promoting independence wherever possible.
Can remain calm, adaptable and professional in a busy specialist environment.
Works well as part of a multidisciplinary team and is willing to work across both the N22 and N8 sites.
In return, we offer:
The opportunity to work within two well-established specialist education settings.
A welcoming and highly supportive multidisciplinary team.
Ongoing training in areas such as moving and handling, communication strategies and complex needs.
A rewarding role where your support has a meaningful impact on the lives, confidence and independence of young people and adult learners every day.
If you have the experience, empathy and dedication to support learners with the most complex needs to achieve their full potential, we would love to hear from you.
