1:1 Teaching Assistant – PMLD

Axcis Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in a school setting in Rochdale.
You will be providing consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with complex needs, requiring a high level of care, attention, and understanding. The role focuses on supporting the child’s learning, communication, physical needs, and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
The pupil may have limited verbal communication, physical disabilities, sensory needs, and medical or care requirements. You will support engagement through sensory-based activities, assist with mobility and positioning, and help implement personalised learning and care plans.
This role will involve personal care, including toileting and feeding where required, always maintaining dignity and respect.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 tailored support for a child with PMLD
• Support learning through sensory and play-based activities
• Assist with personal care, hygiene, and physical needs
• Follow EHCP targets, care plans, and risk assessments
• Support communication using non-verbal methods, symbols, or assistive tools
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, therapists, and external professionals
• Ensure the child’s safety, comfort, and inclusion at all times
Key Requirements:
• Previous experience supporting children with PMLD or complex needs (essential)
• Personal care experience
• A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
• Ability to work on a 1:1 basis and build a trusting relationship
• An enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered on the Update Service
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
Pay & Benefits:
• Pay: Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience)
• Hours: Monday–Friday, school hours
• Contract: Agency, term-time only
• Ongoing support from a dedicated Axcis Education consultant
