Job Title: Year 7 SEND Teacher
Year 7 SEND Teacher – Special School – Havering (January Start)
£160–£220/day (depending on experience) | Secondary | Havering | January Start | Full-Time | Long-Term
Axcis are proud to be working with a well-established special school in Havering to recruit a dedicated Year 7 SEND Teacher for a January start. The school supports pupils aged 2–19 with a range of complex needs, including SLD, PMLD, autism, communication needs and sensory/physical difficulties. With a Good Ofsted rating across all areas, the school is known for its calm, structured environment and holistic, therapy-led practice.
Year 7 offers a bridge between primary and secondary learning, maintaining the nurturing structure pupils rely on while encouraging growing independence. The phase is supported by experienced TAs, therapists and pastoral staff who work closely together to meet each learner’s academic, social and emotional needs.
In this role, you will be:
• Teaching a small Year 7 class, delivering a highly adapted, individualised curriculum linked to EHCP outcomes.
• Planning engaging, multi-sensory lessons that promote communication, independence, emotional development and functional learning.
• Using communication supports such as visuals, PECS and Makaton (desirable).
• Supporting pupils’ sensory regulation through structured tasks, sensory spaces and therapeutic input.
• Working collaboratively with therapists (SALT, OT, Physio), support staff and families to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery.
• Encouraging social communication, emotional wellbeing and practical life skills as part of each pupil’s developmental pathway.
What we’re looking for:
• QTS/QTLS or a strong ECT with relevant SEND experience.
• Strong preference for candidates with special school experience, especially with autism, SLD/PMLD or complex learning needs.
• Excellent differentiation, communication and behaviour management skills.
• A calm, resilient and empathetic teaching style.
• Someone committed to personalised education and multi-disciplinary teamwork.
