We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming special needs school in Tilehurst. This is a rewarding full-time opportunity supporting children and young people with a wide range of additional needs in a structured, nurturing and supportive environment.
In this role, you will work with pupils aged 4 to 17 who have needs ranging from moderate to severe learning disabilities. You will collaborate closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support, helping pupils to access learning, develop essential life skills and build confidence in their day-to-day school experience. Your role will involve supporting students both within the classroom and on a one-to-one basis, using effective behaviour management strategies and encouraging engagement, participation and independence.
Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils is central to this position, as is the ability to adapt your approach to meet a wide range of needs across different age groups. You will also be required to support with personal care where necessary, so a willingness to take a hands-on approach is essential.
We are looking for individuals who bring relevant and transferable experience, whether from SEND school settings, care or support work, social work or roles involving vulnerable individuals. The ideal candidate will be confident in engaging with children and young people with additional needs and naturally able to command respect while acting as a positive and consistent role model. You should be flexible, observant and proactive, with a patient and resilient mindset that allows you to respond effectively to the challenges and rewards of the role.
