Job Title: Teaching Assistant
SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Crosby
Start Date: Late October / November 2026
Hours: Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available
Make a Difference. Build Relationships. Change Lives.
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people who face barriers to learning? Do you have the patience, resilience and understanding to help pupils develop their confidence, emotional wellbeing and independence?
We are currently recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a welcoming independent specialist school in Crosby, supporting pupils aged 8–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
With opportunities available for a late October or November 2026 start, this is an excellent opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Support Workers and individuals with transferable experience who are looking to build a rewarding career within specialist education.
You don't necessarily need to have worked in a school before. Experience supporting children or young people in care, residential settings, youth work or similar environments could be equally valuable.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
• Building positive, trusting relationships and becoming a consistent source of support for pupils.
• Helping children manage their emotions, develop coping strategies and improve emotional regulation.
• Supporting positive behaviour, engagement and participation in learning.
• Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience and greater independence.
• Maintaining clear, consistent boundaries and using positive behaviour management strategies.
• Supporting pupils both in the classroom and throughout the wider school environment.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and other professionals to meet individual needs.
What We're Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates who are:
• Experienced in supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, autism, ADHD or other additional needs.
• Calm, patient, resilient and able to remain consistent in challenging situations.
• Naturally approachable, with the ability to build positive relationships and establish trust.
• Confident supporting pupils who may experience emotional dysregulation or display challenging behaviour.
• Understanding of the importance of boundaries, routines and consistency.
• Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential.
• Previous experience in a school or specialist SEN setting is beneficial but not essential.
We also welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in:
• Residential and children's care.
• Youth work and mentoring.
• Support work and community care.
• Behaviour support.
• Mainstream education and SEN settings.
A positive attitude, resilience and a genuine desire to make a difference are just as important as previous experience.
Why Apply?
• Late October and November 2026 start dates.
• Full-time and part-time opportunities available.
• Opportunity to work within a specialist, child-centred school.
• Supportive and experienced staff team.
• Opportunities for training and professional development.
• On-site parking and good transport links.
• Valuable experience working with pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
• A genuinely rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference to young people's lives.
