Pay: £92.63 – £100 per day PAYE
Axcis Education is looking for a Teaching Assistant to join a successful secondary school in Andover. This long-term Teaching Assistant position is a fantastic opportunity to work with students aged 11–16 who require additional support with their learning, communication, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
The school is committed to ensuring every student can participate fully in school life. As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support that enables students with SEND and SEMH needs to remain engaged in lessons, build positive relationships and develop the confidence to achieve both academically and personally.
No two days are the same in this rewarding Teaching Assistant role. You could be supporting a student during English in the morning, leading a small intervention group after break, or helping a young person develop strategies to manage their emotions and return successfully to learning.
Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant:
• Deliver focused one-to-one support for students with SEND and SEMH needs throughout the school day
• Lead and support small intervention groups to reinforce learning and develop key skills
• Encourage students to participate confidently in lessons and wider school activities
• Promote positive behaviour by using clear expectations, consistency and encouragement
• Support students with organisation, communication, emotional regulation and independent learning skills
• Liaise with teaching staff, the SEND department and pastoral teams to ensure consistent support for individual students
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to help inform future support strategies
• Contribute to a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued
The Ideal Teaching Assistant Will:
• Enjoy working with secondary-aged young people and be committed to helping them succeed
• Have professional experience within education as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor or Learning Support Assistant, or personal experience supporting individuals with SEND, SEMH or additional needs
• Bring transferable skills from youth work, sports coaching, nursing, care, mentoring, residential childcare or similar professions
• Be calm, reliable and able to build positive relationships with students from a range of backgrounds
• Be adaptable and confident responding to the changing needs of students throughout the school day
• Have a genuine interest in inclusive education and supporting students to overcome barriers to learning
