SEND Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEMH / ASC / ADHD Location: Bournemouth, Dorset Start Date: April 2026 Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant | SEMH & Behaviour Support | Bournemouth A highly regarded secondary SEND school in Bournemouth is seeking an experienced and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from April 2026. This is a full-time, term-time role supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), and ADHD. This specialist secondary provision offers small class sizes of up to 10 pupils, enabling staff to provide consistent, relationship-led support. The school supports young people who may have faced barriers to mainstream education and uses structured routines, positive behaviour strategies, and trauma-informed practice to help pupils re-engage with learning. This role would suit an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Assistant, Youth Worker, or SEND TA with strong behaviour management skills and confidence working in a secondary setting. The Role: Support pupils in a secondary SEND classroom, working 1:1 and in small groups Assist pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning Implement behaviour support plans and restorative approaches Adapt learning strategies for pupils with SEMH, ASC, and ADHD Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and pastoral teams Maintain a calm, structured, and safe learning environment Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils The Ideal Candidate: Experience as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary or SEND setting Strong background supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural needs, ASC, or ADHD Confident using de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies Calm, resilient, and consistent approach Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary SEND team Passionate about supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes Why Apply?
