Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic staff within a Pupil Referral Unit serving secondary-aged students in Yeovil, Somerset. The role involves providing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health support and assisting with the behavioral, emotional, and academic needs of our students.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will be an integral part of a team committed to delivering an alternative curriculum that helps students re-engage in education and make positive life choices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work directly with secondary-aged students in a PRU setting on a full-time basis.
- Support individual students and small groups, promoting inclusion and access to the curriculum.
- Provide SEMH support to students, nurturing a safe learning environment.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans.
- Support teaching staff in managing classroom behavior and promoting positive interactions.
- Engage students in learning activities, adapting methods to meet individual needs.
- Encourage academic development and provide targeted support in literacy, numeracy, and other areas.
- Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and other professionals.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to the planning and preparation of lessons.
- Help with the preparation of classroom materials and resources.
- Promote the wellbeing and safeguarding of all students.
- Perform administrative tasks as required and maintain accurate records.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
Requirements:
- Prior experience in a similar role or working with children with SEMH needs is desired.
- A patient, nurturing approach and a passion for supporting challenging students.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A proactive and flexible attitude, willing to contribute across various aspects of school life.
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- A commitment to confidentiality and data protection standards.
- Educated to at least GCSE level, including passes in English and Math.
- Enhanced DBS check or willingness to undergo checks.
- First aid training or willingness to complete training is advantageous.
