Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant - ASD Location: Salford, Lancashire Job Description: We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team in Salford, Lancashire, to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for helping children with special educational needs reach their full potential in an educational setting. Key Responsibilities: - Provide tailored support to children with ASD, both within the classroom environment and in one-to-one settings. - Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers and other professionals to meet the specific needs of students with ASD. - Use a variety of strategies and tools to promote communication and social skills development in students with ASD. - Assist students with academic tasks, adapting materials and activities to suit their learning needs. - Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers, parents, and relevant professionals. - Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that enables students with ASD to feel safe and encouraged to participate. - Implement behavior management techniques effectively and in accordance with the school's policies. - Participate in training and professional development related to ASD and other areas of special educational needs. - Assist with the preparation of teaching materials and the organization of learning activities and educational outings. - Maintain detailed records of students' performance, progress, and any issues that arise. Essential Skills and Qualifications: - Relevant experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role, supporting children with ASD. - NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or a related field. - Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and experience implementing strategies to support students with ASD. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents. - Patience, resilience, and a positive, empathetic approach to working with children with special educational needs. - Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. - Enhanced DBS check (current or willing to undertake as part of pre-employment checks). Desirable: - A relevant professional qualification in Special Educational Needs. - Training in PECs (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, or other ASD-specific communication strategies. - Experience in de-escalation techniques and behaviour management.
