Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our a primary school based in the beautiful area of Yeovil, Somerset. The ideal candidate will provide 1:1 support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, facilitating both their academic and socio-emotional development in a school setting.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the lead teacher to understand the educational needs and learning objectives for the student.
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to the student with SEND, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
- Employ a range of strategies to promote the student’s independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
- Support in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans or Behaviour Plans.
- Assist the student with structured learning activities, adapting materials and exercises according to their needs.
- Encourage and facilitate positive social interactions and assist in the development of emotional regulation skills.
- Monitor and track the student’s progress, reporting back to teachers, special education coordinators, and parents.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Attend meetings and training as required, contributing to the wider educational team.
- Facilitate the inclusion of the student in classroom activities and during social times.
- Assist with the management of behaviour using appropriate strategies.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children, particularly in a support role for those with SEND.
- Understanding of the requirements and challenges faced by children with additional needs.
- Ability to build a rapport with children and engage them in learning.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.
- A resilient and patient character, capable of adapting to various situations.
- DBS check (or willing to undergo a check).
- Commitment to the school’s ethos, aims, and values.
