Job Title: Student Teacher SEN Assistant
Gain Valuable Experience Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Plymouth Axcis Education is pleased to offer an excellent opportunity for student teachers and recent graduates to gain meaningful, practical experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a variety of educational settings across the Plymouth area. These roles are particularly well suited to individuals seeking experience within special schools, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and communication difficulties. The experience gained will be highly beneficial for those pursuing careers in teaching, special education, educational psychology, or related fields. Available Positions For Student Teachers: • Casual, part-time roles (1–5 days per week) available to accommodate academic schedules • Practical, classroom-based experience to complement university studies • Opportunities to work with a wide range of SEN profiles in specialist settings For Education Graduates: • Full-time, paid roles available during a placement year or following graduation • In-depth, structured experience within supportive school environments • An ideal pathway into further training or postgraduate study in education or SEN-related fields Key Responsibilities: • Supporting the academic and personal development of children and young people with SEN, either within the classroom, in small groups, or on a one-to-one basis • Assisting teaching staff with the delivery of tailored educational and behavioural interventions • Helping pupils to achieve their learning targets and developmental milestones Candidate Requirements: • Current undergraduate or postgraduate students, or recent graduates in Education or related disciplines • A genuine interest in child development, inclusive education, and SEN support • Strong communication skills, reliability, and a proactive, empathetic approach Additional Information: • Start Date: September • Location: Various educational settings across Plymouth and the surrounding area • Working Hours: 8.30am – 4.00pm • Daily Rate: £90 – £98 This is a valuable opportunity to gain relevant, hands-on experience while contributing meaningfully to the educational progress of young learners with additional needs.
