Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant | From £89/day | Havering | September Start | Full Time | Long Term Supply
Axcis are working in partnership with a supportive school in Havering to recruit a committed Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This full-time, long-term role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs in a school setting.
The school provides a nurturing and inclusive environment for pupils with a range of needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Staff work closely together to ensure all pupils receive consistent, high-quality support throughout the day. The school is well-connected by public transport and has on-site parking.
In this role, you will:
• Support pupils with a range of special educational needs on a 1:1 or small group basis, helping them access learning and develop social skills.
• Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering differentiated activities tailored to individual EHCP targets.
• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation, using strategies such as Zones of Regulation or reward-based systems.
• Support students with transitions, routines and personal development throughout the school day.
• Work collaboratively with SENCOs, therapists and parents to ensure holistic, child-centred support.
What we’re looking for:
• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school, care or youth setting.
• A calm, reliable and empathetic approach to behaviour and learning support.
• Confidence delivering 1:1 support and group interventions.
• (Bonus) Familiarity with communication tools (e.g. PECS, Makaton) or experience supporting pupils with personal care is highly desirable.
