SEND Teacher (Autism – Primary) | MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance | Tower Hamlets | September Start | Full Time | Long Term/Permanent
Axcis are working closely with a well-resourced special school in Tower Hamlets to recruit a dedicated and experienced SEND Teacher to join their team from September. The school caters for primary-aged pupils with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), many of whom also present with communication difficulties and sensory needs. The provision has excellent facilities, including therapy rooms, sensory spaces and outdoor learning areas, and is easily accessible via public transport.
In this role, you will:
• Lead a small class of primary pupils with autism, planning and delivering engaging, structured and differentiated lessons based on EHCP outcomes and individual learning styles.
• Use a range of autism-specific strategies such as visual timetables, now-and-next boards, TEACCH and sensory integration approaches.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including TAs, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and behaviour specialists.
• Create a predictable, supportive classroom environment that prioritises communication, emotional regulation, and routine.
• Monitor progress closely, adapting planning accordingly, and contributing to reviews, reports and parent/carer meetings.
What we’re looking for:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching primary-aged pupils with SEND, ideally autism.
• A good understanding of ASC, including how it impacts communication, behaviour, and learning.
• Experience working in a special school or specialist provision is highly desirable.
• Skilled in differentiation, behaviour support, and alternative communication strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton).
• A calm, creative and resilient approach, with a passion for supporting children with complex needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking, supportive setting that truly values its staff and the children it serves.
