Job Title: SENCO Primary School

About the Role
Our welcoming primary school in Islington is looking for a highly experienced and passionate SENCO to lead our special educational needs provision. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting children with diverse learning needs, working closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure every pupil has the best opportunities for success.
Main Duties
Lead and manage the school’s SEN provision, ensuring high-quality support for children with special educational needs.
Develop, implement, and monitor the school’s SEN policy in line with statutory requirements.
Identify and assess pupils with SEN, coordinating interventions and ensuring personalised learning plans are in place.
Liaise with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to supporting each child.
Ensure the school’s compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and other relevant legislation.
Deliver staff training and provide ongoing guidance to ensure high standards of SEN support throughout the school.
Track and evaluate the progress of SEN pupils to inform future strategies and interventions.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following criteria:
A qualified teacher with at least 5 years’ teaching experience (QTS required).
Experience working with children with SEN in a primary school environment.
National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to achieve this within 3 years).
A strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and other SEN-related legislation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
Organised, proactive, and committed to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all children.
Experience in leading SEN initiatives or supporting staff in SEN best practices is highly desirable.
