Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Axcis Education is recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a specialist primary SEND school in Skelmersdale on a long-term basis from September. About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within the classroom.
The school primarily supports children with:
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Learning difficulties
Some pupils may display behaviours that challenge, so previous experience with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies is essential.
You may also have the opportunity to provide 1:1 support for individual pupils, building strong relationships and delivering tailored interventions to meet their needs.

This welcoming specialist SEND school in Skelmersdale supports approximately 50 primary-aged pupils, creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child receives personalised support.

Working Hours & Pay
• Full-time position
• Monday to Friday
• 8:45am – 4:00pm
• Long-term role starting September
• Excellent opportunity to secure a permanent contract
• Pay from £14.25 per hour
Candidate Requirements
The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will have:
• Experience supporting children in a school, SEND, SEMH, or care setting, or supporting vulnerable adults with additional needs
• A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
• Experience managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
• Knowledge of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
• Team Teach or similar de-escalation training (desirable but not essential)
• A resilient, patient, and proactive approach
• A strong work ethic and full-time availability
