We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in Preston, Lancashire. The successful candidate will work full-time in a long-term role, providing invaluable support to children facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. By fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment, you will help our students to achieve their full potential and become confident and engaged learners.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Support children with SEMH needs, ensuring they have access to the curriculum in a way that meets their individual requirements.
- Work closely with classroom teachers to create and maintain a stable, supportive environment where students feel safe to take on new challenges.
- Employ effective behaviour management strategies to help manage any difficulties in the classroom and promote positive behaviours.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students, helping them develop coping strategies, social skills, and resilience.
- Assist in monitoring and tracking the progress of students with SEMH needs, contributing to reviews and the planning of their Educational Healthcare Plans (EHCP).
- Facilitate communication between the school, parents, and external agencies, ensuring a cohesive approach to each student’s education and well-being.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance understanding of SEMH best practices and strategies.
**Essential Skills and Qualifications:**
- Experience working with children who have social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Strong understanding of the challenges faced by these students and the strategies that can support them.
- NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification is preferred but not essential.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in young people's lives.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development in the area of SEMH.
- A valid Enhanced DBS check, or a willingness to undertake one.
