Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, proactive PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in Walton, Surrey. The successful candidate will support a small group of learners with profound and multiple disabilities, fostering an inclusive, safe, and stimulating learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to learners, implementing individual education plans (IEPs).
• Assist the classroom teacher with lesson preparation, delivery, and adaptation of resources.
• Facilitate personal care, medication administration, and mobility support, adhering to health-and-safety protocols.
• Record observations and progress notes; contribute to assessment and review meetings.
• Promote positive behaviour strategies and encourage social interaction.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible learning space.
• Communicate effectively with families, multidisciplinary professionals, and external agencies.
Essential Requirements
• Experience working with learners who have profound and multiple learning disabilities (or a related caring role).
• Relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Certificate for Assistants Working with People with Complex Needs) or willingness to attain.
• Understanding of safeguarding, health & safety, and medication administration.
• Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to work within the 08:00-15:30 schedule and attend occasional training sessions.
Desirable
• First-Aid/CPR certification.
• Knowledge of assistive technology and augmentative communication tools.
