Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
**Job Title:** Learning Support Assistant (LSA) with ASD Experience - Full Time **Location:** Newham, United Kingdom **Start Date:** January (exact date to be confirmed) **Pay rate** £83.48 (PAYE) **Position Summary:** We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate LSA to join our inclusive and dynamic team. The successful candidate will primarily support secondary school students with ASD in a full-time capacity starting in January. The role requires a background in using communication methods such as Makaton and PECS to enhance student engagement and learning. **Key Responsibilities:** - Provide targeted support to students with ASD, adapting to their individual learning requirements and promoting their social, emotional, and academic development. - Utilise alternative communication methods, including Makaton and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), to facilitate effective communication and learning. - Work under the direction of the class teacher to implement educational and behaviour management plans. - Assist in monitoring the progress of students, providing feedback, and reporting any concerns to the class teacher and SENCO. - Collaborate with other professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists as required. - Support students during classroom activities, breaks, and transitions to ensure a safe and positive learning environment. - Encourage the independence of students and support them in developing self-help and self-regulation skills. - Prepare learning materials tailored to students’ needs, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. - Attend professional development sessions and participate in training opportunities to enhance your understanding of ASD and related educational strategies. **Qualifications and Skills:** - Experience working with children or individuals with ASD is essential. - Proficient in the use of Makaton and/or PECS to support communication with children with ASD. - A patient, empathetic approach with the ability to build rapport and engage with students with varying needs. - Excellent teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external professionals. - A proactive and flexible mindset, with a commitment to ongoing professional development in the area of special educational needs (SEN). - An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one. **Working Hours:** This is a full-time position.
