We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our inclusive and supportive school located in Bournemouth, Dorset. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on a young child’s academic and social development. You will be working closely with a Key Stage 1 pupil who has Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and speech and language difficulties, providing specialised 1:1 support to facilitate their learning and integration within the classroom.
The role
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to a Key Stage 1 pupil with ASC and communication difficulties, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate in school activities.
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to assist with the delivery of lessons and whole-class support as needed.
- Lead and deliver literacy and numeracy intervention programmes to groups or individual students to aid their educational progression.
- Collaborate with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), the senior leadership team (SLT), and external agencies to implement effective learning strategies and education plans.
- Monitor and report on the pupil’s progress, maintaining records, and sharing feedback with teachers and parents/carers.
- Assist in creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes independent learning and positive behaviour.
- Contribute to the school's aims and ethos by participating in team meetings and professional development activities.
The school are looking for
- A compassionate and patient individual with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- Strong understanding of the educational and social challenges faced by children with ASC and speech/language difficulties.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
- Experience working as a teaching assistant or similar role, particularly with Key Stage 1.
- A proactive and creative problem-solver who can adapt learning activities to suit diverse needs.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills required to lead interventions effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to continuously improve knowledge and skills.
