Job Title: Experienced Teaching Assistants - Secondary SEN Support
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our mainstream secondary school. As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide general in-class support to students across Key Stage 3 and 4, with a particular focus on supporting students with challenging behaviour who are at risk of exclusion. Responsibilities: In this role, you will work closely with teachers to plan and deliver lessons, providing additional support to students who may require extra assistance. You will work with students on an individual or small group basis, reinforcing learning, providing guidance, and ensuring students are engaged and on task. Additionally, you will assist in managing challenging behaviour in the classroom, implementing behaviour management strategies and interventions as directed by the teacher or SENCO. Building positive relationships with students will be a crucial aspect of this role. You will provide emotional support and encouragement, promote positive behaviour, and actively engage students in the learning process. You will also collaborate with teachers and other support staff to implement individualized plans for students who require additional support due to their challenging behaviour or risk of exclusion. This may involve adapting materials and resources to meet individual needs, and providing additional support with reading, writing, and other academic tasks. Monitoring and recording student progress and behaviour will also be an important responsibility. You will provide feedback to teachers and other team members to inform further support strategies and ensure students are making progress. Qualifications and Experience: To be considered for this role, you should have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a SEN secondary school or working with SEN in a mainstream provision. You should have a strong understanding of supporting students with challenging behaviour and strategies for managing behaviour in the classroom. Building positive relationships with students, establishing boundaries, and providing emotional support will be essential in this role. Familiarity with the national curriculum and assessment requirements for Key Stage 3 and 4 is also important. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively engage with students, teachers, and colleagues. You should be able to work as part of a team, collaborate with other professionals, and follow instructions from teachers and senior staff. Relevant qualifications and certifications, such as CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, would be advantageous. If you are passionate about supporting students in a mainstream secondary school setting, particularly those with challenging behaviour who are at risk of exclusion, we would love to hear from you. Join our dedicated team and make a positive impact on the educational experience of our students. To apply, please submit your CV and cover letter to rachelg@axcis.co.uk detailing your relevant experience and qualifications.
